M104 - The Sombrero Galaxy
M104 is an edge-on galaxy about 29 million light years from earth. It is found in the constellation of Virgo and has a distinct dark lane across its middle. What makes it a good astrophotography target is the size of the galaxy and its appearance, which resembles a sombrero. This photograph was taken using a modified Canon T3i set at ISO 800 and a six-inch F-5 reflector. The resultant image is a stack of four five-minute exposures:
